Your Teckna Email service needs to work in combination with the
broadband (or dial-up) connection service provided by your ISP. Some
ISPs have put certain restrictions in place which take effect when
using a third party Email service such as Teckna's. Where we have
become aware of such restrictions we have made a note of these here:
Please note that any restrictions described here only apply to sending email from your desktop PC, sending emails using Teckna Webmail are not affected or restricted in any way. Please also be aware that
the restrictions are put in place by the ISP, not by Teckna.
The information below is only the latest information we have been
made aware of, for full details and the latest status, please refer to
the technical support information from your ISP.
ISP: BT
BT makes restrictions in the use of their broadband connection for
sending email from your PC (via Outlook, Outlook Express etc). The
restrictions are called Mail Relay Authorisation and SMTP
Authentication. There are good reasons for these restrictions, as it
helps BT detect and stop anyone trying to use a BT broadband connection
for sending out Spam.
You can still use Teckna email with BT, however you may need to
register your domain for use with the BT service, and configure your
email account accordingly in your Outlook/Outlook Express setup.
Mail Relay Authorisation
As far as we are aware this only applies to BT business
broadband services. It means that BT want you to register any email
addresses and domain names with them before you can send emails from
your Teckna email address from your PC using a BT business broadband
connection. Please contact BT and ask them to configure Mail Relay
Authorisation for your domain.
SMTP Authentication
This means that BT want you to
authenticate yourself when sending emails from your desktop PC with
your BT username and password. You enter this when configuring your
email account, by clicking on the 'More Settings' button found on the
'Server Information' tab or screen. Tick the box which says 'My
outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication', click the 'Log on
using' option and enter your BT user name and password.
ISP: AOL
AOL do not to date provide an SMTP server for use by a third party email service such as Teckna's. This means that you will not
be able to reliably send emails from a Teckna email address from your
desktop PC using Outlook/Outlook Express if your broadband supplier is
AOL. The Teckna Webmail service is unaffected by this restriction.
ISP: Sky Broadband
Sky do not to date provide an SMTP server for use by a third party email service such as Teckna's. This means that you will not
be able to reliably send emails from a Teckna email address from your
desktop PC using Outlook/Outlook Express if your broadband supplier is
Sky. The Teckna Webmail service is unaffected by this restriction.
