Please follow these instructions in order to configure Microsoft
Office Outlook (2000, XP and 2003) to receive and send email. Please
note that these instructions are valid only for email services provided
by Teckna.
Prepare your Setup Information
First, make sure you have the following information to hand. You may
find it easier to complete the setup if you print this page and make
notes as you go along.
- Display name
This is the name you want to appear at
the top of your e-mail messages. This is not provided by Teckna, and
can be any name you choose. We suggest that if you are sending emails
as a person, you make it your full name, if you are sending emails as a
business, make it the name of your business, but the choice is yours.
For example 'Fred Smith' or 'Freds Fish Supplies'
- E-mail Address
This is the e-mail address you chose or were given when you signed up for your e-mail account.
For example info@fredsfish.co.uk
- Incoming mail server (POP3)
This is the name of the
Teckna mail server where your email is stored until you download it.
You will find this information in an email with subject 'Welcome to
Teckna' that was sent to you when your email service was first created.
For example: mail.fredsfish.co.uk
If
you can't find this information, you can work it out from the email
address as the format is always the same: mail.yourdomain, or for the
email address info@carlton-french.com, the incoming mail server would
be mail.carlton-french.com
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
The setting for the
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server varies depending on the ISP you use to
connect to the internet. We have listed the current SMTP server
settings for most of the major UK ISPs here. If you are in doubt, please contact your ISP and ask which setting to use for your SMTP server.
For example: smtp.btconnect.com, relay.plus.net or smtp.orange.net
**
BT and AOL customers: additional setup and configuration instructions
for outgoing mail applies to a small number of ISPs, please see Email and your ISP section for further details.
- User Name
If your email account was predefined by
Teckna, you will find this information in an email with subject
'Welcome to Teckna' that was sent to you when your email service was
first created.
For example: info
If you can't
find this information, or if you have created your own email address in
the control panel, you can work it out from the email address as the
format is always the same: it is the part of the email address before
the @ sign. So for the email address paul.jones@miniwin.net the account
name would be paul.jones
- Password
If your email account was predefined by
Teckna, you will find this information in an email with subject
'Welcome to Teckna' that was sent to you when your email service was
first created. If you created your own email address in the control
panel you would have set your own password.
For example: red73hat
