FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP is used to transfer your files from your local computer to your website hosting space. To use FTP you will usually need a piece of software called an FTP Client. Many are free to download, eg Filezilla, Smart FTP and BulletProof FTP.

To use FTP you will need the following:

• A web hosting package with FTP access
• The FTP host name
• Your FTP username
• Your FTP password
